  • Born on 11 February 1955 in Varaždin, Republic of Croatia

Education

  • Elementary and comprehensive school finished in Varaždin
  • In 1973 enrolled at the Faculty of Physical Culture in Zagreb and graduated in spring 1978 with an excellent grade after defending his dissertation on “Relations between school success and player efficiency in basketball cadets” under the mentorship of prof. Milan Blašković, PhD
  • In 1984 he completed his postgraduate study and defended his master’s thesis on “Correlation between anthropometric characteristics and motor abilities in basketball cadets”
  • In 1992 he successfully defended his doctoral dissertation on “Efficacy of different methods in the basketball training process with mentally retarded persons” and acquired the title of Doctor of Science
  • First as an assistant, then assistant professor, associate professor and finally full professor and full professor with tenure, he has continuously been working at the Faculty of Kinesiology University of Zagreb since 1 November 1978

Teaching activity

  • Teacher at the integrated undergraduate and graduate university study of kinesiology – BASKETBALL, part-time and full-time studies at the Study Centre for Coach Education at the Faculty of Kinesiology in Zagreb and at the doctoral study of kinesiology
  • Guest lecturer at various faculties of the similar field
  • Lecturer at numerous seminars as part of basketball coach education programmes in the Republic of Croatia and other European countries
  • In 2010, as the author along with other associates, he published a university textbook for BASKETBALL – “Anthropological Analysis of the Basketball Game”, intended for students and coaches
  • In 2015, as a co-author, he published an expert manual – script “The Foundations of Basketball” on the official web site of the Faculty of Kinesiology, primarily intended for students in order to assist them in preparing for their exam in the course BASKETBALL

Scientific activity

  • He participated as a speaker in numerous scientific conferences around the world
  • He is the author of many scientific and expert papers published both in domestic and in foreign journals
  • Researcher and associate in projects by the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports, as well as project leader of two projects – “Mini Basketball” and “Health-related habits of sports coaches”

Research fields

  • Basketball – through analysis and descriptions of basic and specific knowledge, abilities, features and characteristics of both male and female basketball players of all age groups; training processes in basketball and its determinants, etc.

Professional activity

  • Basketball player and coach, from 1998 up to 2014 a member of the Expert Committee of the Croatian Basketball Federation; within the mentioned period also the President of the Expert Committee in the period between 2005 and 2014
  • As of 1987, he has been extremely active within the International Sports Association SPECIAL OLYMPICS – sports for persons with mental retardation

Other

  • Passive speaker of three foreign languages – Italian, German and English
  • Won the “Franjo Bučar” National Sports Award for exceptional achievement in the field of sport
  • In 1997 he was elected as dean by the Faculty Council of the Faculty for Physical Culture and he held that position for two terms, from 1997 to 1999 and from 1999 to 2001

  • In the period between January and June 2009, he took over as course teacher in the course “Men’s Basketball” at one of the most prestigious universities in the USA, Penn State University, which he conducted independently during the spring semester; in addition, he also spent time at the University of Sport in Oslo (Norway) and at the Comenius University in Bratislava (Slovakia), in the duration of one month on both occasions
  • He was a guest lecturer at the Beijing Sport University in China, at the Masaryk University in Brno (Czech Republic) and at the Gonzaga University in Washington (USA)

Scientific activity

  • He actively participated in over 30 scientific and professional conferences and congresses
  • He is project leader of the study “Impact of physiological load on the changes in certain kinematic parameters while performing specific motor skills in the field of basketball” and has participated in three scientific and research projects: “Mini Basketball”, “Health-related habits of sports coaches” and “Creating the Locomotion study Centre for excellence” by the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports of the Republic of Croatia
  • He published over 120 scientific and professional papers

Professional activity

  • Basketball coach; FIBA certified coach (Licence No: 2008019865)
  • Co-founder of the Croatian Basketball Academy, as well as its president between 1999 and 2003
  • Currently holding the following functions: president of the Committee for Education and Research in Basketball at the Croatian Basketball Coaches Association, representative of the Croatian Basketball Federation in the FIBA Europe Youth Committee, member of the International Committee of NABC in the USA, as the only European member, and external member of the NABC Research Committee in the USA
  • Member of the Expert Programming Committee of the Zagreb Sports Federation
  • Member of the ECSS, Croatian Kinesiology Association, Zagreb Kinesiology Association, Croatian Ski Instructors and Trainers Association and International Ski Instructors Association
  • He was a lecturer in numerous basketball and other professional seminars and workshops in Croatia, Europe and worldwide

Professional activity

  • He was active as a coach of younger basketball teams in BC Zagreb and BC Cedevita in Zagreb
  • Over the past ten years he has also been active (as coach and selector) in all young Croatian National Teams
  • Among more noticed results are the following: 5th place at the 2010 Men U18 European Championship in Lithuania; 1st place at the 2011 Men U16 European Championship in the Czech Republic, 2nd place at the 2013 Youth Olympics in the Netherlands, 2nd place at the Croatian National U16 Men’s Championship in 2014 with BC Zagreb, 3rd place at the Croatian National U16 Men’s Championship in 2015 with BC Cedevita, 2nd place at the 2016 European University Games with the team of the University of Zagreb
  • He also works with many basketball players as an individual coach for improving motor skills (technique) and specific physical fitness and motor preparation

Željko LukendaŽeljko Lukenda

  • Born on 19 April 1963 in Slavonski Brod
  • He finished elementary school in Sikirevci, and graduated from secondary school in Slavonski Brod
  • In 1988 he graduated at the Faculty of Physical Culture in Zagreb and in 1992 he enrolled and completed all four semesters of the Postgraduate specialist study in the course Basketball

Teaching activity

  • He worked at the Dr Ante Starčević elementary school from 1989 to 1994 as a Physical Education teacher and in 1994 he was elected as a lecturer; further in 2000 he was elected to the rank of Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture University of Zagreb in the course Physical Education
  • In 1997 he was chosen as the head of the Department of Physical Education at the mentioned faculty
  • As of 2005 until today he has been elected as an external Associate at the Faculty of Kinesiology University of Zagreb where he participates in exercise classes in the course Basketball

Professional activity

  • Since 1988 he has been active as a basketball coach for younger age categories and in 1994 he became the coach of the senior team in the Croatian academic basketball club “Mladost” which has competed in the 2nd (A-2) National Men’s League in CroatiaIn 2007 he received the Golden badge of the Croatian Kinesiology Association for his years of work in the profession and in 2015 he was also awarded with a Letter of Appreciation of the Faculty of Kinesiology University of Zagreb for his years of work in the implementation of teaching programmes at the Faculty of Kinesiology

Awards and acknowledgements

  • In 2007 he received the Golden badge of the Croatian Kinesiology Association for his years of work in the profession and in 2015 he was also awarded with a Letter of Appreciation of the Faculty of Kinesiology University of Zagreb for his years of work in the implementation of teaching programmes at the Faculty of Kinesiology

  • Davor Pavlović was born on 5 June 1972 in Požega; Croat
  • He completed both elementary and secondary school in Požega, after which he enrolled in the Faculty of Physical Culture in Zagreb where he graduated in 1997 (specialization field – Basketball)

Teaching activity

  • Worked as a Physical education teacher and head of the school sports club from 1999 to 2007 at Antun Branko Šimić elementary school in Zagreb
  • On 21 June 2007 he was elected to the educational rank of Lecturer in the area of Social Sciences, field of Educational Science, branch Kinesiology at the Faculty of Forestry University of Zagreb where, since then, he has been continually conducted classes (minimum of 450 hours each year)
  • As of academic 2004/05 year until today he has actively been teaching classes at the Faculty of Kinesiology University of Zagreb as an external associate in the course Basketball (minimum of 30 hours each year)
  • In 2009 he was elected as an external associate in the mandatory module Kinesiology in Education at the graduate study of kinesiology
  • On 25 January 2012 he was elected to the educational rank of Senior Lecturer in the area of Social Sciences, field of Educational Science, branch Kinesiology at the Faculty of Forestry University of Zagreb
  • He received acknowledgements and the Golden badge from the Croatian Kinesiology Association for his successful work

Scientific and professional activity

  • As both an author and co-author he has published several scientific and professional papers which he had presented in international and domestic expert conferences
  • His classes are available on the web site of the Faculty of Forestry as teaching materials in the form of a script for student that has been positively evaluated and reviewed by an expert committee

  • In 2006 he enrolled in the Faculty of Kinesiology University of Zagreb which he graduated from on April 3 2013 after defending his final thesis on “Individual technique and tactics of basketball players in centre positions in offence”

  • In 2015 elected as an External Associate in the course Basketball at the undergraduate university study at the Faculty of Kinesiology and the Study Centre for Coach Education

  • Between 2014 and 2015 he completed his professional training as teacher of Physical Education at Jelkovec elementary school in Zagreb
  • Likewise, as of 2015 he has been working as a technical secretary at the National Teams Office of the Croatian Basketball Federation

  • As a player, he went through all age categories and since he completed his studies, he has been actively involved in working with younger age groups
  • Assistant coach in the U16 team in BC Zagreb between 2010 and 2014
  • Assistant coach in the U16 team in BC Zagreb in 2014 and 2015
  • As of 2015, he is the head coach of the U16 team in BC Mladost

Professional activity

  • As a player for BC Vindija from Varaždin, he played in all age categories and was occasionally a member of the U16 and U18 National Team
  • He has been actively playing basketball during his entire university education and is currently playing in BC Hermes Analitica where he also takes part in working with younger age categories
  • Between 2012 and 2016 he was a member of the Zagreb University Team that won 1st place at the National University Championship and 2nd place at the European University Games in 2016
